The poplar tree, characteristic to river banks and wetlands, produces a white wood that is soft and almost knot-free. The wood needs to be felled before autumn in order to preserve its whiteness and flexibility. Pioneering designer Ferrán Freixa chose to create the Nagoya Lamp from this abundant material. The lampshade features thin wooden strips placed on to a small, circular metal rod structure to create an oriental-style lamp with a Zen feel.
The Nagoya lamp is the first winner of the Golden Delta ADI-FAD award for the best industrial design in 1961.

Santa & Cole was founded in 1985 by three designers – Nina Masó, Gabriel Ordeing Cole, and Javier Nieto Santa, with a vision of improving design for everyday life. Two years later, they surprised the market with new stylish lamps that were out of the trends of that time, it was something completely unusual. The enthusiasm with which the brand’s products were received inspired the creative team to further exploit. Santa & Cole experts were actively involved in the renovation of Barcelona for the 1992 Olympics. Many solutions that were then implemented on the streets of the city were included in the Santa & Cole catalog and gave an incentive to develop the outdoor direction further.
Today, the Santa & Cole catalog includes lighting fixtures for the home, elements of garden lighting, furniture for living rooms, all kinds of furniture for the city – designer benches, tables, fences, flower pots, drinking fountains, bicycle parking and more
